Gonzalo, a local teen who has just received a scholarship from Kathleen Gleeson of the Calgary team to enrol in Computer Technology in the local Extension University, is once again teaching computer classes to the youth of the village during the February Journey.

A New Laboratory
Work is forging ahead on the new lab for the Project Ix-canaan Clinic that has been funded by AGAT Labs, Ix-canaan supporters from Calgary, Alberta. Here Alfonso and Santos, whose time is being funded by Hotel Gringo Perdido (Eduardo Cofino) are busy building the new walls to divide the lab from the rest of the clinic building.

Lots of Patients Waiting
Long line-ups of patients await the dentists every morning ... many more than can possibly be seen during a 4-day Dental Journey.

Waiting for the Dentist
Many of the health problems of this area are caused by overindulgence in Coca-Cola and coffee with sugar from an early age ... often much younger than this.

Global Coalition for Peace
And now that my computer is once again connecting properly to the internet, I will be catching up on all the wonderful things that have been happening in the village since we began having computer problems. And to start ...
In January, Rose Lord (left) and Marta Luz Atkinson (right) returned for the 4th time since beginning their program of Food for Peace with the women of the village last January. This time, they were accompanied on their 2 week journey by Marta Luz's husband David Atkinson, and their friend Joel Riley.

A Medical, Educational and Construction Journey
Our last few days have been very busy. On February 4th, a group of (mostly) Calgarians arrived on a Medical, Educational and Construction Journey. They have been accomplishing a lot of things that I am now going to be able to blog about, thanks to the hard work of Tomas Limon (bottom row left), a computer technician who has, in the one short week that he was able to be with us, performed miracles with my computer, which is once again able to enter the internet, and repairing/rebuilding the ones in the computer center so that they, too, are functioning optimally. We have even been able to offer computer classes again this week!

Bryan Visits for New Years
Bryan and I had a great visit together over the New Year's vacation. He was able to come home to the jungles for the first time in 4 years. One of the highlites of our time together was a beautiful sunny afternoon that we spent in Tikal, walking, talking, hiking and climbing. Here he is on top of the main Mundo Perdido temple, looking out towards Temple IV, the largest temple in the Mayan world, in the far distance, from where we had just come.

Four New Pups
Luna had four new pups ... 2 males and 2 females ... that are almost ready to give away. We picked up the vaccine for parvo virus and the other dog diseases yesterday, and at the end of the upcoming week, Enrique will inject them all and they will be ready to go.

SnowFlake's Baby
Yesterday when I went to feed SnowFlake, and she just picked at her bowl of corn and went off to tramp and clean a patch of earth, I had a feeling that the time had come. Sure enough, by noon she was cleaning off her newborn, who has settled right in and is now prancing all around the pasture.

Thanks to a donation by Tom Grote of Ohio, the Women's Group was able to buy their dance costumes in time to perform at Gringo Perdido the other night for a large group that included the son of the President of Guatemala, and his family. The group of women have been preparing to dance the Punta and the Meringue for Activation Maya 2005.
